Tesla to Run Smaller Native Version of xAI’s Grōk Using Local Compute Power

Elon Musk-led xAI has introduced its first product, an AI chatbot named “Grok.” Musk hinted at the possibility of Tesla vehicles natively running a smaller version of Grōk using their onboard computing power. While the specific applications of Grōk in Tesla vehicles remain unclear, it could potentially replace the current voice command system.

The post that caught Musk’s attention mentioned the incorporation of a quantized version of the AI model Grōk that would run on Tesla’s local computing power. Musk claimed that Teslas could have the world’s largest usable inference computer, provided their AI computers can run the Grōk model. Grōk’s SuperPrompt context window is rumoured to have a 25,000-character limit and could offer access to live content via X.

Grōk will be made available to X users who subscribe to the company’s Premium Plus tier for a monthly fee of $16. The exact timeline for when Grōk will be accessible to Premium Plus users remains uncertain, but Musk suggested that it would be offered “as soon as it’s out of early beta.”
