Rush Shahani’s career began in 2012 when he took on a role as an Event Coordinator for the Teen Advisory Group. Over the next year, he organized various community events aimed at engaging local teens.

In 2013, he became a Computer Science Teaching Assistant at John Fraser Secondary, where he supported Grade 10 students in understanding core computer science concepts. For nearly a year, Rush held tutoring hours, provided assignment help, and clarified challenging course material.

In 2015, Shahani interned as a Software Engineer at LoyaltyOne in Toronto, where he designed a REST API for processing transactions in Air Miles currency using Node.js. He ensured high performance and reliability by implementing distributed strategies, adhering to ACID principles, and analyzing load and stress test results. His efforts earned him an outstanding evaluation and the role of LoyaltyOne Campus Brand Ambassador.

In 2016, Rush joined Shahani Shopify, working across several teams. Starting with the Production Engineering team, he contributed to developing a Mobile CI system. He then moved to the iOS team, where he rebuilt Shopify’s mobile app in Swift. Then, he worked on the Payments team, implementing a multi-currency feature for Shopify Payments using Ruby on Rails.

Shahani’s work at LinkedIn began in early 2018 as an intern on the Search team. There he developed the backend for knowledge cards on the search results page, providing contextual information that enhanced user experience. After graduating, he returned to LinkedIn in 2019 as a full-time Senior Software Engineer. Over the next three years, he worked on the Query Formulation Search team, contributing to AI-driven personalization projects such as ads on the feed, trending queries, and near-line query distributions.

In 2018, Rush Shahani joined Element AI as an AI Developer on the NLP team. He helped build machine learning models for semantic analysis and text classification, contributing to a hate speech detection project. It garnered media attention in publications such as Forbes, Time, and TechCrunch. He leveraged technologies like PyTorch, TensorFlow, and Keras to advance this impactful “AI for Good” initiative.

In early 2019, Rush Shahani took on an AI Researcher role at the University of Waterloo. There he worked with the KIMIA Research Lab on machine learning models for cancer diagnosis under Dr. Hamid R. Tizhoosh. This four-month project furthered his experience in applied AI in the medical field.
