Open AI Search Engine: How this AI-Powered Search Product is Different from Google? Check Here

Sam Altman’s OpenAI is planning to announce the release of its search engine on May 13, 2024. The announcement will come a day before Google’s annual I/O developer conference, where the tech giant will reveal plans for its Gemini AI products.

OpenAI’s revolutionary search engine is expected to challenge Google’s long-standing dominance in the industry. According to recent reports, an anonymous insider known as Jimmy Apples revealed that OpenAI was set to announce its own search engine at an event on May 9, 2024.

During a recent appearance on Lex Fridman’s podcast, CEO Sam Altman also expressed his belief that the company’s AI-powered search engine would be far more than just a superior alternative to Google. While he acknowledged the potential to build a better search product, he emphasized the importance of focusing on the broader implications of AI in the search industry.

Altman also elaborated that although Google currently presents users with a traditional list of links and ads, there is an opportunity to alter how people access and process information. He believes that OpenAI’s ChatGPT demonstrates this potential in certain use cases and aims to expand its capabilities.

How is Open AI Search Engine Different from Google?

Google has always been the undisputed leader of search engines. But with OpenAI’s mysterious search engine on its way, Google’s standing might change very soon.

OpenAI’s search engine is expected to take a completely different approach to presenting search results compared to Google. Instead of a list of links and ads, OpenAI’s search engine is expected to provide more personalized responses to user queries. Various reports say that the new search engine will most likely include images and diagrams as part of its search results. In short, OpenAI’s search engine would understand the context behind queries to provide tailored results.

As per Bloomberg, OpenAI has expanded its ChatGPT product line with its search offering. Now, ChatGPT will be able to extract information directly from the Web and also include source citations.

There are reports the company has registered a domain name for the search engine, search.chatgpt.com. However,  the URL currently displays no search results.
