At Meta’s annual conference, the Meta Connect 2024, the company introduced several new products and updates. Meta introduced the latest Meta Quest 3S, Ray-Ban smart glasses, the prototype of AR Glasses, Orion, and updates to its different AI Products.
According to the company, Meta is set to become the “most used AI assistant” by the end of this year. The company claims that it is being used by more than 400 million users monthly, with 185 million people using it to access Meta’s products each week.

At Connect, Meta introduced several key multimodal updates to the AI products to make them more fun, accessible, and useful. These are the major updates coming to Meta AI Products:
One of the most exciting updates is the introduction of voice-enabled interaction with Meta AI. Now, you can talk to your AI assistant on different platforms like Messenger, Facebook, WhatsApp, and Instagram. Meta AI will provide answers and explanations to your questions and even tell jokes on your request. Not only that, you will be able to choose from popular celebrity voices for your AI assistant.
To use the voice interaction feature, open any of the Meta apps mentioned above. Now, find the AI assistant, and speak directly to it. You can choose different voice options, including popular personalities like Awkwafina, Dame Judi Dench, John Cena, Keegan Michael Key, or Kristen Bell.

This new update allows you to send photos within chats. The AI can recognize what is in the image and answer questions about it. Also, the AI now supports photo editing. You can request the AI assistant to make edits to your images such as changing outfits or replacing backgrounds with AI-generated images. Meta AI can suggest backgrounds for Instagram Stories based on the photo content as well.
You can send a photo to Meta AI via chat and ask a question about it. To edit, simply request changes like “Add a rainbow background” or “Change my outfit.”

Meta has expanded the Imagine feature. Now, you can apply AI-generated visuals in Stories, feed posts, and even profile pictures. You can place yourself in various creative settings, like imagining yourself as a superhero, and easily share these personalized visuals. Also, Meta AI can auto-generate captions for your Stories.
On Facebook or Instagram, open Stories, upload a photo and use the Imagine feature to apply AI backgrounds. You can also ask Meta AI to suggest a caption based on the content of your image.
Now, you can personalize chat experiences with Meta’s AI-powered themes. You can create custom chat themes that go beyond the preset options, allowing you to change backgrounds and text bubble colors based on your preferences.
In Messenger or Instagram DMs, open the chat settings, and select “Themes” to customize your chat look.

Meta is testing an AI translation tool that automatically translates audio in Reels. The AI uses dubbing and lip-syncing to make the translated audio match the speaker’s voice and lip movements. At present, the feature is undergoing testing on content in English and Spanish. It will be rolled out for more languages later.
You will see an option to translate audio in Reels if the content is eligible when watching videos from select creators.
Meta has also expanded its business-focused AI solutions. Now, Businesses using click-to-message ads on WhatsApp and Messenger can integrate AI to manage customer interactions more efficiently. These AI systems can answer common customer questions, provide product recommendations, and even facilitate sales directly within the chat.
