How to Turn Off AI Overview on Google? Easy Steps by Steps Guide

Google, during its annual I/O event, announced rolling out AI Overview (previously called SGE) to users in the United States. It is an experiment in Search Labs that lets you see AI overviews on more Google searches and offers access to additional generative AI features in Search. Based on your search query, it displays AI-generated answers on top of the search results, pushing down the blue links. 

However, this new replacement of the Search Labs experiment known as SGE did not draw much attention. Many users are looking for ways to turn off AI Overview on Google Search. In this article, we have jotted down different methods to turn off AI Overview on Google.

How To Turn Off AI Overview on Google?

Google, in their help document, has mentioned that turning off “AI Overviews and More” in Search Labs will not disable all AI Overviews in Search. AI Overviews are part of Google Search like other features, such as knowledge panels, and can’t be turned off. However, there is a way to reduce AI inclusion within the output. 

Scroll down for a step-by-step guide to turning off AI Overview on different devices. All you need is: 

  • Your device.
  • The latest version of the Google app, Chrome, or Firefox.
  • Be 18 or over.
  • A personal Google Account that you manage on your own. For now, Search Labs and its experiments are not available to Google Workspace accounts, including Google Workspace for Education accounts.

For Android Users

Step 1: On your Android device, open the Google app, Chrome, or Firefox.

Step 2: Make sure you’re signed in to your Google account with Incognito mode turned off.

Step 3: At the top, tap Labs and scroll to Manage.

Step 4: Toggle OFF​​ or ON “AI Overviews and More.”

For Computer

Step 1: On your computer, open Chrome.

Step 2: Make sure you’re signed in to your Google account with Incognito mode turned off.

Step 3: At the top of the browser, click the New tab.

Step 4: At the top of the page, click Labs and lead to ‘Manage.’

Step 5: Toggle OFF or ON “AI Overviews and More.”

For iPhone and iPad

Step 1: On your iPhone, open the Google app, Chrome, Firefox, or Safari.

Step 2: Make sure you’re signed in to your Google account with Incognito mode turned off.

Step 3: At the top, tap Lab and look for the option, Manage.

Step 4: Toggle OFF or ON “AI Overviews and More.”

If you get an AI overview that you feel is unsafe, not helpful, inaccurate, or bad for any other reason, you can let Google know by submitting feedback. Scroll to the bottom of the overview, and tap the LIKE or UNLIKE buttons to give feedback. Also, if you tap on the UNLIKE button, select a reason and enter any additional feedback.
