From Idea to App: What is Google Stitch AI? A New Coding Tool to Help Design Apps

Google Stitch AI is a powerful design tool that transforms simple prompts or sketches into ready-to-use app interfaces. Powered by Gemini, it helps developers and designers quickly prototype UI, explore design options, and export to Figma or code. Ideal for fast app creation with minimal technical effort.

Google Stitch AI is a new generative tool from Google Labs that transforms simple ideas into complete user interface designs with working frontend code.

Announced at Google I/O 2025 and in public beta since May 20, 2025, Stitch was developed by engineers and designers at Google, using the powerful Gemini 2.5 Pro model.

The tool is designed for both developers and designers, as well as beginners who want a faster way to transition from concept to app. You type in a prompt, like “create a dark-mode homepage with a navbar,” or upload a sketch or wireframe.

Within minutes, Stitch generates polished UI layouts and exports clean HTML/CSS and front-end code. It also lets you export designs to Figma for further editing.

In this article, we’ll explore Stitch’s key features, pricing, and more so you can see whether it fits into your workflow.

What Is Google Stitch AI and How Does It Work?

Google Stitch AI is a new AI-powered tool from Google Labs that helps turn simple ideas into app interfaces. It uses natural language prompts, sketches, or wireframes to generate full UI designs and working frontend code.

The tool was introduced at Google I/O 2025 and is currently in public preview. Stitch runs on Google’s Gemini 1.5 Pro model and combines design intelligence with code generation.

How Does It Work?

Step 1: Open Google Stitch AI

Visit labs.google and sign in with your Google account. Select “Stitch” from the available experiments.

Step 2: Describe Your Idea

Enter a text prompt like “Create a mobile app homepage with a login button and dark theme.” You can also upload a sketch, wireframe, or image for visual input.

Step 3: Generate Design

Stitch AI uses Gemini 1.5 Pro to analyse your prompt. Within seconds, it creates UI layout options with front-end code (HTML and CSS).

Step 4: View and Edit Design

You can review the design, tweak layout elements, and regenerate alternatives if needed. It also supports basic on-page editing.

Step 5: Export or Share

Download the frontend code or export the design straight to Figma for enhanced editing or collaboration with your team.

Step 6: Build Further

Use the exported code as a base to build your full application or share it with your dev team.

Key Features of Google Stitch AI

Google Stitch AI is a new tool that turns your app ideas into real UI designs using text or images. It makes app design simple, fast, and accessible to everyone.

1. Generate UI from Natural Language

Simply explain the application you aim to create in simple language. You can add particulars like colours, schemes, choices of layout, or the way in which you want users to interact with it. Stitch takes your description and turns it into a visual interface that matches your vision.

2. Create Designs from Images or Wireframes

Upload your rough sketch, UI screenshot, or hand-drawn wireframe. Stitch will examine the image and transform it into a digital design, aiding you in swiftly transitioning from concept to display.

3. Fast Iteration and Design Variants

Stitch supports creative exploration. You can create various design options, experiment with different layouts or elements, and swiftly identify the style that suits best.

4. Easy Handoff to Development

Once your design is ready, you can:

  • Export to Figma for detailed editing and team collaboration.
  • Download the frontend code (HTML/CSS) so your UI is ready for development.

Google Stitch AI Pricing and Availability

As of now, Google Stitch AI is free to use during its public preview phase. You can access it via labs.google with a Google account. There is no subscription required, though this may change when it moves out of beta. In the future, it may be included as part of Google Workspace or Gemini subscriptions.

Stitch currently works in Chrome and is optimised for desktop use. Mobile support may come later. It is still in development, and more features and pricing options are expected to be introduced in the future.
