Cristiano Amon began his career working in telecommunications during the early days of cell phone networks. His first job after college was with NEC’s Brazilian branch. In 1996, Amon joined Qualcomm to help the company expand its presence in Latin America.

After a few years, Amon left Qualcomm and worked briefly for Ericsson before moving to VeloCom, an investment firm focused on telecommunications. At VeloCom, Amon was assigned to Vésper, a struggling telecom company in Brazil that was nearing bankruptcy. As Vésper’s Chief Technology Officer and Chief Operating Officer, he helped turn the company around and make it profitable. In 2003, Vésper was sold to competitor Embratel.

Amon returned to Qualcomm in 2004, where he steadily rose through the ranks. He served as Senior Vice President of Product Management, Executive Vice President of Qualcomm Technologies, and President of Qualcomm’s CDMA division. He played a key role in the development of Qualcomm’s 4G technology and was instrumental in growing Qualcomm’s Snapdragon semiconductors. Amon also strengthened Qualcomm’s relationships with smartphone manufacturers in China and oversaw the company’s expansion into semiconductors used in a wide range of industries, including automotive, 5G infrastructure, and virtual reality.

Plus, Cristiano Amon led Qualcomm’s 5G strategy and played a crucial role in improving the company’s radio processors. In 2018, he was appointed President of Qualcomm. Amon also led Qualcomm’s $1.4 billion acquisition of Nuvia, a company founded by former Apple executives, and shifted its focus toward developing CPUs for consumer products.
