The ChatGPT desktop program for macOS was unveiled by OpenAI, enhancing user accessibility when interacting with the AI chatbot. Voice Mode was added to ChatGPT-4o, which made it simpler to ask ChatGPT questions during chats. The app will be free for users in the upcoming weeks, and a Windows version is scheduled for release later in the year. Plus customers can access it starting today.
ChatGPT Desktop APP
OpenAI Chief Technology Officer, Mira Maruti announced the release of a ChatGPT desktop app for Mac users during its Spring Update event. OpenAI will release the ChatGPT desktop app for Windows later this year.
Although ChatGPT already has apps for iOS and Android users, the recently released desktop app will make utilizing ChatGPT much simpler. This new first-party support is significant because previously, the only ways to use ChatGPT on a desktop were through third-party desktop programs and extensions.
OpenAI states that users can ask ChatGPT questions via the desktop software, regardless of their subscription status. OpenAI said in the press release that its technology is “designed to integrate seamlessly into anything you’re doing on your computer.”. Based on what’s visible on your screen, the application that opens in a window on your screen will be able to interact with you.

Open AI released the desktop app and ChatGPT-4o, the updated version of ChatGPT, simultaneously. Voice Mode on the desktop software will allow you to speak to ChatGPT aloud once ChatGPT-4o is released. This implies that you can communicate with ChatGPT, as it was shown during the live stream using samples of code.
OpenAI states that the app will launch for free users “in the coming weeks,” and that it will be accessible to Plus users starting today. Additionally, they say that a Windows version would be released “later this year.” Beyond that, no more timetables or dates were given.
Anyone who enjoys using ChatGPT for assistance with coding will probably find a desktop app extremely helpful, as the AI chatbot is already a fantastic resource for that. Getting assistance with coding will be considerably simpler and more efficient if it is readily available via a simple Keyboard shortcut (Option+Space) and opens in a little window next to your text editor. Within the app, you can also snap and share screenshots.

Furthermore, there have been whispers that generative AI, which Apple has been working on for some time, will be a major theme of the company’s June WWDC event. This is in line with the launch of the ChatGPT desktop software for macOS. It’s noteworthy that OpenAI made this announcement a month before Apple, which is probably going to provide more sophisticated generative AI tools, now that we’re set to see them disclose even more AI features coming to macOS in addition to iOS.
