South Korea is set to host a mini-summit this week on the risks and regulation of artificial intelligence, following up on an inaugural AI safety meeting in Britain in 2023 that drew a diverse crowd of tech luminaries, researchers, and officials. All About AI Seoul Summit 2024
The UK government is all set to co-host the AI Seoul Summit with the Republic of Korea. It builds on the legacy of the first AI Safety Summit, which was hosted by the UK at Bletchley Park in November 2023, bringing together international governments, AI companies, academia, and civil society to advance global discussions on AI.
Korea, which ranks 6th in the world in the global AI index and 3rd in AI patent applications, and has succeeded in developing its own AI model, which is rare among non-English speaking countries, is also working diligently to lead the formation of new AI international governance.
The summit promotes innovation while ensuring AI safety and, at the same time, supports and cooperates with countries in the Digital South that are excluded from digital benefits such as AI.
This year, the ‘AI Seoul Summit’ will be held over two days on May 21st and 22nd with British Prime Minister Sunak.
This ‘AI Seoul Summit’ will go one step further from the discussion on AI safety discussed at the first summit held in the UK last year and will also address issues of AI innovation and inclusiveness.

It expresses the infinite potential, diversity, and expandability of future innovation and AI technology’s capabilities in a variety of colours.
Also, the theme for AI Seoul Summit 2024 is ‘Building in the AI Safety Summit: Towards an Innovative and Inclusive Future’.
The Seoul summit is being billed as a kind of mini virtual summit, acting as a stopgap until a more formal in-person meeting that France has promised to host. It will include the outcomes of discussions on safety, innovation, and inclusivity, according to Park Sang-wook, senior presidential adviser for science and technology for President Yoon.
The leaders of the Group of Seven wealthy democracies the U.S., Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, and Britain were invited to the virtual summit, along with leaders of Australia and Singapore and representatives from the U.N., the EU, according to South Korea’s presidential office. However, the list does not include China and will send a representative to Wednesday’s in-person meeting, the South Korean presidential office said.
The two-day meeting, co-hosted by the South Korean and U.K. governments, will also witness major tech companies like Meta, OpenAI, and Google roll out the latest versions of their AI models.
