AI and ML-Based IP Saarthi Chatbot Launched by Piyush Goyal to Simplify Trademark Search

India’s Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal launches the AI-powered IP Saarthi Chatbot, aimed at expediting trademark searches and patent applications. This cutting-edge AI and ML-based tool enhances efficiency, reduces disputes, and supports innovation in India's IP ecosystem.

According to a PIB announcement, Union Minister of Commerce and Industry, Shri Piyush Goyal, reportedly introduced the AI and ML-powered trademark search technology tool IP Saarthi Chatbot in New Delhi.

Minister Goyal stated at the inauguration ceremony that search technology would allow trademark applications to be cleared more quickly, effectively, and accurately. In addition, he expressed optimism that the platform will settle disputes about trademarks and said that the addition of official languages in future iterations would elevate this search module to a global standard.

The Minister mentioned that the quality of patent disposals would also increase with the introduction of the search module and IP chatbot. The government is working to combine AI and ML-based technology for speedier design approval. To promote quicker adoption, the Minister emphasized that government-operated AI technologies should be compatible with a wide range of technological devices and user interfaces.

Minister Goyal noted that women submitting patent applications have experienced a transformative shift in the recent decade. The Minister stated that to support innovators, the decision was made to lower patent fees by 80% for individuals, startups, MSMEs, women entrepreneurs, and academic institutions.  

Shri Goyal emphasized the government’s commitment to ease of doing business while speaking about the five technology-based service launches in a single week: the Trade Connect e-Platform, the Jan Sunwai Portal, ECGC’s new online service portal along with a redesigned in-house SMILE-ERP system, BHASKAR, the one-stop shop for everything a startup needs, and the Trademark Search technology today. According to him, artificial intelligence will develop into a useful instrument for existential analysis. Therefore, to get better results, emerging technology needs to be incorporated into daily work more quickly.

Citing the three Is of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi: Innovation, Idea, and Intelligence According to Minister Goyal, it is the identity of young people who are talented and skillfully recognized around the globe. By 2047, he said, the Government will do its part to turn India into a Viksit Bharat. He stated that the goal of 1.4 billion Indians is to make their country develop by 2047, not just a wish.

Minister Goyal concluded by urging the attendees to keep coming up with new ideas and improvising and expressing hope that India’s answers will eventually become the standard.  

With the introduction of its AI and ML-based Trademark Search technology, the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), Ministry of Commerce and Industry, hopes to completely transform intellectual property management.

Among the new technology’s salient features are:

  1. Cutting-edge AI and ML techniques for accurate trademark recognition
  2. Simplified search procedures for both local and foreign companies
  3. Improved trademark protection capabilities

This program reflects India’s strategic vision for embracing cutting-edge technology and aligns with the nation’s commitment to promoting intellectual property services.

The IP Office wants to use AI and ML to:

  • Quicken the registration process for trademarks.
  • Enhance IP stakeholders’ overall user experience
  • Encourage global cooperation in the creation of IP systems

Additionally, consumers undergoing the IP registration procedure can get rapid advice and guidance from the IP Saarthi Chatbot, a digital assistant.

This technological advancement is a testament to India’s commitment to building a strong, effective, and user-friendly intellectual property ecosystem. It is evidence of the nation’s attempts to simplify intellectual property laws, which helps inventors and decision-makers around the world.  

The launch of the IP Saarthi Chatbot and AI-powered trademark search technology is a major turning point in India’s intellectual property digital transformation. This creative strategy not only puts India at the forefront of technological innovation in IP management, but also demonstrates the nation’s dedication to promoting creativity, safeguarding intellectual property, and building a more effective and accessible IP ecosystem for all parties involved, both domestically and internationally.
